ABSTRACT:
Adaptec proposed a new network back-end consisting of a Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) linking all Salient workstations to a centralized RAID storage system. With this approach, all applications and files are stored on the centralized storage platform, instead of on internal workstation disks or dedicated storage arrays. Applications send processed images directly to the centralized storage via a high-speed Fibre Channel link - instead of via Ethernet - increasing burst transfer rates to 95 megabytes per second, dramatically increasing throughput. In addition, the SAN consolidates all workflow processes onto a single storage resource, enabling more precise management and eliminating duplication of large files on multiple drives or RAID arrays. |
