ABSTRACT:
The advantages of signature servers lie in the area of performance. By a signature server, big data amounts can be processed very rapidly. Smartcards are not only slower, but in parts also not suited for big data amounts. Moreover, a signature server is characterized by a high migration ability (adaptation to increased performance demands by already implemented load distribution procedure).
Central signature server can smoothly be integrated into existing systems. With the use of a hardware security module, they allow the application of various cryptographic procedures and big key lengths. If current key lengths or algorithms should be considered too weak with time, they can be replaced by new procedures or higher key lengths without problems. Thus, there is a high security of investment.
