ABSTRACT:
Due to rapidly increasing processor power, dual-socket servers can run the vast majority of business applications, including many previously handled by four-socket servers. Dual-socket servers require less power and generate less heat, decreasing power and cooling costs. Lower power consumption also means less data center infrastructure, creating more savings through cost avoidance. As an added benefit, dual-socket servers are smaller and occupy less rack space. This white paper explains the benefits of dual-socket servers and how to incorporate them into the IT infrastructure.
