ABSTRACT:
The increased competitiveness of the telecom market, along with ongoing issues like bandwidth demand, traffic management and security, pose major challenges for service providers. Not only do they need to devise and deploy enhanced offerings that can help them improve their competitive position; they also need to maintain quality of experience (QoE) for customers while keeping network costs under control. This paper examines the role of advanced Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) in helping carriers meet these requirements. Advanced DPI supplies intelligence service providers can use to better manage traffic, mitigate current and future security threats, and develop and deploy new services. Further, advanced DPI can reduce capital and operating expenses (CapEx/OpEx)- which gives service providers an even greater ability to succeed in a market that's becoming more challenging by the day.
