ABSTRACT:

Desktop virtualization is a rapidly growing technology that can substantially increase flexibility and manageability in enterprise desktop environments. Both remote (server-based) and local (client-based) desktop virtualization have limitations and advantages, but client-based desktop virtualization in particular provides significant benefits - including improvements to mobility, security, manageability, disaster recovery, and migration.

As this paper shows, cost savings alone can add up to millions of dollars, even before accounting for productivity and mobility benefits.

There are two main types of desktop virtualization:

• Server-Based (or Remote) Desktop Virtualization

• Client-Based (or Local) Desktop Virtualization
