ABSTRACT:
This paper provides users in enterprise environments the data to effectively understand the options as well as the limitations of implementing online streaming backups into their infrastructure.
This paper is primarily directed to HP users in an enterprise environment currently running or planning to run Exchange 2007. This paper provides:
- Best practice recommendations based on extensive lab test results; encompassing configuration, design, process, and considerations
- Backup and recovery recommendations for online streaming backup users, focusing on both disk and tape as targets (D2D2T and D2T)
- A comparison of performance with Exchange 2003
- Supporting configuration recommendations for HP servers and for HP StorageWorks 8000 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA8000)
- Recommendations for the use of multiple streams and storage group configurations to shorten backup windows
- A discussion of backups with VSS, including advantages and new features
- A discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing streaming versus host-based VSS for backups
By leveraging the recommendations and best practices, administrators have the opportunity to shorten backup windows and efficiently load the server, thereby reducing cost and maximizing hardware and personnel resources.
