ABSTRACT:

ESG estimates that organizations will archive approximately 7,000 petabytes of e-mail over the next 4 years. The rationale for saving messages can range from complying with regulatory mandates to reducing e-mail related storage expenses, making e-mail archiving a very popular discussion item when it comes to IT budgets.Organizations often need to rationalize potential investments with Return on Investment (ROI) models that weigh the investment cost of the technology solution versus the cost savings and benefits. However, many internally developed ROI models, including ones built specifically for e-mail archiving, fail to identify all of the measurable impact of technology investments. For those organizations, EMC has designed a comprehensive ROI model that captures some of the cost savings and benefits achievable via e-mail archiving. While many organizations must still produce their own ROI for e-mail archiving, they can still turn to EMC's tool to ensure that they are measuring all the variables and scenarios that could help justify the appropriate investment.
