This document first establishes what master data and Master Data Management (MDM) mean. It then discusses the nontechnical organizational and operational challenges associated with introducing an MDM program. Organizational challenges include those of data ownership, performance-oriented management, and change management. Operational challenges include those of data quality management, data standards management, data governance, and data integration.
